Who is Narendra Modi?

Narendra Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, a small town in the state of Gujarat, India. He was the third of six children born to Damodardas Modi and Hiraben Modi. Modi's family belonged to the Ghanchi community, which is classified as an Other Backward Class in India.

Modi grew up in modest circumstances and helped his father sell tea at the Vadnagar railway station during his childhood. He completed his schooling in Vadnagar and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Delhi.

In his early years, Modi was deeply influenced by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist organization, and he became an active member. He worked for the RSS as a pracharak (full-time worker) and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the political wing of the RSS.

Modi's political career began in the early 1980s when he rose through the ranks of the BJP in Gujarat. He held several organizational positions within the party before being appointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001. He served as Chief Minister for four consecutive terms, from 2001 to 2014.

During his tenure as Chief Minister, Modi implemented various economic reforms and development projects that earned him praise for his governance style and administrative efficiency. However, his tenure was also marred by controversies, including the 2002 Gujarat riots, which resulted in widespread criticism of his handling of the violence.

In 2014, Narendra Modi led the BJP to a landslide victory in the Indian general elections and became the Prime Minister of India. His tenure as Prime Minister has been marked by a focus on economic development, infrastructure projects, and initiatives such as "Make in India," "Digital India," and "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" (Clean India Mission).

Modi's leadership style and policies have sparked both admiration and criticism, with supporters praising his decisive leadership and efforts to transform India's economy, while opponents have raised concerns about issues such as religious intolerance and freedom of expression.
